Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel: a secluded farm in Ibiza

Yo

It’s not hard to see why fashion heiress Paola Fendi chose to hold her lavish wedding reception at the sprawling fuschia bougainvillea-covered whitewashed finca, Atzaró.

One of the White Isle’s first agrotourismos, it has become somewhat of an Ibiza institution among those who know it. Celebrities are attracted to its secluded location, slightly hidden inland, safely away from the island’s mainland, and nestled among 32 acres of sweet-smelling orange groves and lush gardens – Rihanna and Shakira were both spotted on its famous white daybeds.

Where is it?

Less than half an hour from the airport, Atzaró sits quietly in the north-east of the White Island, near Santa Eulalia. It boasts its own beach club 15 minutes drive from Cala Nova, which overlooks the sparkling turquoise waters, as well as a chic farm-to-table country restaurant, Aubergine, further inland.

Atzaró Agrotoerisme Hotel

Rustic, rustic and tranquil, with bags full of authentic finca charm. Atzaró is a 300-year-old former working orange farm that has been in the Ibizan Guasch family for generations. With original polished terracotta floors, open stone walls and beams and hand-carved wooden doors, the decor is traditional yet simple. The rooms feature pristine white sofas with large plush pillows, crisp linen, solid oak furniture and large ceramic pots, allowing the surrounding abundant nature to do all the talking.

Atzaró Agrotoerisme Hotel

Atzaró is perhaps best known for its wellness offering, but whether you’re here for the whole detox-to-retox feeling or on an absolute health head, no one cares, it’s Ibiza after all. This year, the hotel has introduced an outdoor sauna pool and jacuzzi deck in the ground, which is in addition to the original spa, complete with hammam, Finnish sauna and steam room after which you are encouraged to take a dip in the unheated pool. .

On an uncharacteristically rainy day in May during our visit, after a sublime massage, we spent an afternoon repeating this circuit several times and slipped into a phenomenally deep sleep that night. Treatments are worth the extra money, they are known on the island as one of the best. Reflexology, reiki and facials are also all on the menu.

Atzaro’s new menu uses fresh produce grown in the countryside

British chef James Adams, formerly of Heckfield Place and The River Cafe, has put together a new eating concept at Atzaro’s restaurants for 2022, using the fresh produce grown on the estate’s vegetable garden via bio-dynamic farming methods that the take moon phases. .

La Veranda, the hotel’s restaurant has an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy a healthy Mediterranean menu of salads, seafood and pasta dishes, whilst enjoying the delicious aromas of jasmine, rosemary and lavender that surround your growing and resident peacocks. For something more hearty go for the slow-cooked leg of lamb with apricots and saffron potatoes or roasted beef fillet with harissa and chimichurri. For pudding, you will not regret ordering the hotel’s distinctive Atzaró orange cake made with fresh clementines, saville and cloves grown on the farm and homemade marmalade. Breakfast can meanwhile be enjoyed here, with plenty of a la carte options, in addition to a spacious buffet with lots of fresh fruit, juices and of course free-flowing cava – just stick to one glass if you plan to join the morning yoga class.

The Orange Tree (open July to September) is the more glamorous setting for al fresco dining in a courtyard under rising palm trees and a gazebo shining with lights, while Aubergine, about 15 minutes further in the heart of the island, ‘ a rustic, rural atmosphere popular with families.
