Bathgate: Mom has ‘enough’ after sparkly B&M wallpaper ‘won’t stick to walls’

A DIY-loving mom might wish she called Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen instead after seven failed attempts to hang wallpaper from B&M.

Miriam Beck, from Scotland, bought seven rolls of silver glitter paper for £20 each.

At first she thought it was a good buy, but after trying to hang them, she changed her mind.

The 46-year-old mother of four tried to give her living room a makeover after her son and his partner left the house in Bathgate, West Lothian.

But it ended in disaster despite her trying super glue, heavy-duty paste, edge glue, no more nails and spray glue.

“I’m usually good at wallpapering—I did my whole house from top to bottom myself,” she said.

“I wouldn’t say I have qualifications, but I know what I need for the job. It’s frustrating and irritating.’

“I was going to hang it up one day and the next morning I went into the living room and saw it had fallen.”

She said she complained to the company repeatedly, but heard little back.

However, B&M has now hit back, claiming that it did not follow the instructions and taped the paper when first applied it, rather than on the wall.

They reimbursed her for the cost of the paper, but told other customers to read the instructions before using it in the future.

However, Miriam said, “I wish I’d just painted them. I kept trying to hold the wallpaper for over a month.’

“It happened over and over to the point where I had to tear it down and clean the walls to start over.

She has spent a total of £146 on paper, paint and brushes for her do it yourself project.

After giving up, she said she was laughed at by the staff after returning the wallpaper to the store and told by customer service that it could be a supplier issue.

“I’ve literally had enough, I wrote to the owners, no response,” she said.

A spokesperson for B&M: ‘Unfortunately, the customer did not follow the application instructions on the wallpaper this time. This product is a “Paste the Wall” product and the customer pasted on the paper when she first applied it.

‘As a gesture of goodwill, we contacted the customer to reimburse her for the purchased paper in full. We recommend that customers in the future read the instructions carefully before embarking on a DIY wallpaper project.”
