Baz Luhrmann teases upcoming Elvis concert film with new footage

At the Met Gala on Monday evening, Baz Luhrmann teased that maybe he's not quite done with it yet Elvis Presley-related projects, after his 2022 Austin Butlerfilm starring.

The director told me The Hollywood Reporter“The fans really want to know if all that footage we found in the vaults will become a concert film and I'm here to say I think it will happen.” In October, Luhrmann did posted on Instagram of which “we found rolls and rolls of never-before-seen footage Elvis on tour And That's how it is,” tells fans to “stay tuned.” An accompanying video showed a cardboard box with a Warner Bros. label and “Elvis outtakes box” written on the side.

That's how it is was a documentary about Elvis Presley's summer festival in Las Vegas in August 1970 (released alongside his twelfth album of the same name) and Elvis on tour was a 1972 documentary that followed the star on a 15-city tour.

The director had also previously said that he would release an extended version of the series Elvis with more of Butler's performances, telling IndieWire during the film's awards ceremony: 'There is a lot of material that totals four hours, but I have now committed that I would not today, not tomorrow, but at some point [it]. Because Austin did his concerts to the fullest. He did all the numbers. Austin just did it and it was an out-of-body experience to see him do those full concerts, so one day I'll put those full concerts together.

There has been no update on that four-hour period since; Elvis was nominated for eight Oscars at the 2023 awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor nods for Butler.
