Big reward for Kazuma Kobori

Canterbury golfer Kazuma Kobori will make his major tournament debut at the PGA Championship next week.

The 22-year-old from Rangiora found out on Tuesday that he has been rewarded with a spot in the USPGA field at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, from May 16 to 19, after winning the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit last season . .

Following the example of former Order of Merit winner, Australian David Micheluzzi, Kobori has received a special invitation to this year's second men's major.

Micheluzzi made his big debut last year at the PGA Championship.

The PGA of America's invitation was extended following Kobori's season points win in Australasia, with his excellent start to his professional career and achievements as an amateur not going unnoticed around the world.

After turning professional with the Queensland PGA in November, Kobori claimed three Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia titles earlier this year on his way to the Order of Merit crown, which has already earned him a DP World Tour card for next season.

Kabori, who is ranked 432 in the world, was set to start his big career at the British Open at Royal Troon in July, which he also qualified for after winning his home tour's Order of Merit.
