Boy, 16, stabbed to death in Northampton called by police

16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Northampton on Wednesday afternoon has been named as Rohan Shand by police.

Affectionately known as Fredhe died shortly after 3.35pm from a single stab wound to the chest in the suburb of Kingsthorpe, despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The boy’s family is said to be “devastated” by his death in the incident on Harborough Road, close to the junction with The Cock Hotel.

Four men, aged 14, 16, 21 and 49, were arrested Wednesday in connection with the death and remain in custody.

A forensic post-mortem performed on Thursday by a Home office pathologist identified the single stab wound as his cause of death.

Formal identification has not taken place, but the boy’s family has been notified and is supported by specialist agents.

Northamptonshire Police asked for their privacy to be respected and urged the public not to share “insensitive messages and images” on social media to avoid “additional distress”.

inspector Simon Barnesthe senior investigating officer, said: “Our thoughts are still with Fred’s family and friends as they try to come to terms with his death.

“This is an exceptionally sad and tragic incident and has understandably had a huge impact on the neighborhood and wider community and we know people are very shocked and upset by what has happened.

“Our officers remain in the Kingsthorpe area and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to them as they are happy to help.

“We are also once again appealing to anyone who may have information and have come forward to do so.

“If you have private CCTV footage or a dash cam, we’d love to hear from you.

“Your footage could provide valuable information that could help us figure out what happened around the time of Fred’s attack.”
