British Olympic runner banned from driving after being caught speeding

British athletics favorite Kriss Akabusi was banned from driving after being caught speeding.

The former Olympian65, drove 75 km/h in a 30 km/h zone and already had nine points on his driver's license.

He tried to fight a disqualification by claiming he suffered “exceptional hardship.”

But JPs inside Southampton has banned him from the road for six months over the incident last April the Isle of Wight.

He was also ordered to pay £1,036, made up of a £660 fine, £110 in legal costs and £266 victim surcharge.

However, Akabusi has appealed the ban, meaning it has been stayed until a Crown Court hearing later.

Akabusi won silver at the 1992 Barcelona Playing for the 4x400m relay and the 400m hurdles, for which he still holds the British record.

Later he presented TV shows including the BBCs Record breakers.

In a 2013 interview published in the Northern Echo, Akabusi talked about his love of fast cars.

He told the publication: “I get racer moments from my boys, but actually I'm pretty calm.

“I like to drive, I drive 50,000 kilometers a year, most of it on the highway. I don't want to get myself into trouble, but I can get somewhere quickly.”

He also told the publication that when he was about 19 or 20, he was racing home from a nightclub in his Opel GTJ with two of his friends and drove it through a curved intersection and his car left the ground.
