We've all heard it: OMG, the fire hazard of EVs/lithium is SO REAL. Is it hard? If you believe the memes you get from “friends” trying to scare you away from driving an electric car, that might seem like a big deal. Interestingly enough, some data from federal recalls, the Federal Transportation Safety Board and the Bureau of Traffic Statistics provide factual answers.

It turns out that gasoline cars cause 3837.17 times more fires than electric cars.

So… why isn't that in the news? Well, maybe because it's not new: gasoline is flammable, of course they cause fire! What's new and interesting (i.e. “if it bleeds, it leads”) is that every now and then an EV also catches fire. But you should also know that those whose financial or political futures depend on our continued use of gasoline are more than happy to spend a lot of PR money exposing electric cars as imperfect.

Well, I'll take well-filled batteries instead of tanks of gasoline any day.

Whenever some crazy person sends you an anti-EV meme, feel free to take a screenshot and save this meme to your phone. If you're anything like me, you know what I'm talking about; people send me so many. I know it's only because they are jealous and afraid of change. Haters gonna hate.

We will be posting more and more memes as part of our “Counterargument. Look at the whole thing pro clean tech memes here.
