Characters from Queenstown leave behind fond memories

Two hugely positive characters who made significant contributions to Queenstown have passed away in the past ten days.

Lindsay Westaway, who died on April 29 at the age of 78, was – together with his late wife Dianne – the face of the Walter Peak tourism company for 37 years.

And Wayne Cafe, who died last Sunday aged 69, was a popular ski instructor turned real estate agent and co-organizer of a ski racing fundraiser that helped grow Cure Kids into one of New Zealand's most successful charities .

Lindsay – as farm manager and rural demonstrator at Walter Peak – welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors from the Earnslaw steamer until he and Dianne retired to Kirwee, in Canterbury, in 2012. His funeral took place in Kirwee on Tuesday.

A memorial service for Wayne will be held on May 23 at 2:30 pm at the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall.
