Dunedin premier rugby wrap-up: round six

After a subdued start, Green Island remain unbeaten in the Dunedin Premier Club Rugby competition this afternoon.

The Grizzlies defeated Alhambra-Union 40-8 at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

But they could be without Atunaisa Katoa next week after the flanker was shown a red card in the second half for a dangerous tackle.

AU took a 3-0 lead after 16 minutes thanks to a penalty from William Thode. They had most of the ball in the first quarter.

However, Green Island finally got into action minutes later and big number 8 Delany McKenzie.

Their monstrous forwards packed in for a 5-yard scrum and rolled forward as McKenzie came under the posts.

They scored again through Caleb Williams and then Daniel Smart to lead 21-3 at halftime.

Green Island controlled both ends of half-time as Nemec-Vial showed a small step to score and crossed for another shortly afterwards.

AU had their chances through the middle but just couldn't find the touches they needed to finish them.

Grizzlies replacement Keisuke Yasuda was booked, leaving Green Island down to thirteen players after Katoa's red card. AU winger Oliver McKenna took advantage and scored his side's only try.

Nemec-Vial scored his third late to win 40-8.

Zingari-Richmond also remains unbeaten after beating Taieri 36-27 at Peter Johnstone Park and Southern Harbor 79-19.

At Kettle Park, Dunedin secured a hard-fought victory over University, by a narrow margin of 26-25.
