The Ebonyi branch of the People’s Democratic Party Working Committee has suspended its chairman, Mr. Okorie Tochukwu, for alleged misconduct.

It was learned that Okorie has allegedly diverted more than N53 million from his account without resorting to others who have signed the bill.

PDP deputy state chairman Ifeanyi Nworie made the announcement after the SWC’s emergency meeting in Abakaliki on Monday, July 4, adding that the suspension was for a period of one month.

According to Nworie, Okorie was suspended for failing to organize board meetings for four months since he was reinstated as chairman by the Abuja Court of Appeals.

He said: “During today’s SWC emergency meeting, we discussed the activities of our chairman, Tochukwu Okorie and his misconduct.

“The chairman has been unable to organize a meeting for more than four months, in violation of the party’s constitution.

“The deputy chairman, legal counsel, publicity secretary and female leader were among others at today’s emergency meeting.”

Commenting on the suspension, Okorie described his alleged suspension as illegal, saying: “Only the national leadership can suspend me.

“I am a member of the party’s National Executive Council and no member of the state work committee has the authority to suspend me.

“As for the alleged gross misconduct, I am the chairman as directed by the court. I have the privilege of accessing the party’s account when conducting party activities.”

In May, the Abuja Court of Appeal ordered Okorie’s reinstatement as PDP chairman in Ebonyi state and fired Silas Onu, who previously held the position.
