Ex-F&G chairman says he was mistreated

Fish & Game New Zealand’s departed chairman Ray Grubb says he has been the target of 18 months of continuous abuse leading to sleepless nights.

On Monday it emerged that Mr Grubb had resigned as chairman of Fish & Game and an investigation was launched into allegations against him.

When contacted yesterday, Mr Grubb, who used to live in Otago but is now based in Nelson, said anyone in the rest of the world can say anything about anyone.

But there had to be an investigation into allegations against him.

He could not comment on the allegations, but he strongly denied them.

He said that with the introduction of a new CEO to the organization, it was a good time to step down.

Corina Jordan had become Fish & Game’s new CEO in August last year, replacing Martin Taylor.

An independent investigation into the organization last year found it had a bloated management structure and recommended the organization reduce the group from 12 councils to six.

Fish & Game manages, maintains and improves sport fish and game birds and their habitats in the best long-term interests of current and future generations of fishermen and hunters.

Mr. Grubb was tasked with chairing the group that would lead the organizational change.

Mr Grubb said yesterday that he had done the work to modernize Fish & Game to bring the organization to a more professional base. But that met with some opposition.

“I have been subjected to a relentless campaign of abuse from a small group opposed to the changes. They don’t want change and I have been a victim of this abuse for the past 18 months.”

Mr. Grubb became national president of the group in November 2020.

The abuse had caused him sleepless nights and stress. He said none of those who abused him had the guts to address him personally and only sent emails forwarded to him.

He had always operated as a man of honesty in the role.

“Since I have been chairman, I have behaved with integrity and dignity.

“That’s my style and my way of doing things.”

He said the behavior of the group opposed to the changes was outrageous.
