FOOTIE fans mocked Newcastle’s wild celebrations after being Manchester United, reminding them of losing the League Cup final to the Red Devils.
There were scenes of joy in the Magpies dressing room after the monumental result – which the club shared on its official Twitter account.
Manager Eddie Howe was harassed by his troops after congratulating them on their performance and shortly afterwards they posed for pictures in the dressing room.
But they were promptly caught over-celebrating the win, with one person tweeting: “Congratulations on winning the World Cup.”
Another said: “Enjoy the 3 points, Newcastle. We’ll enjoy the trophy!”
And another said, “They win a game, not a trophy FFS.”
One agreed: “The cup final was last month.”
ironic Newcastle lost the Carabao Cup final in February after barely giving United a gauntlet.
But Toon had much to celebrate after victory at St James’ Park, where United jumped to third in the Premier League.
They schooled Eric ten Hagside with 22 shots compared to six.
Goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson sealed the three points and put Newcastle in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League.
