Frasier fans are excited to see the iconic character return for season two

Production of the second season of the Frasier revival has begun, with a very familiar face returning to the fold.

Kelsey Grammer reprized his role as the stuffy psychiatrist in last year's Paramount+ revival, surrounded by a brand new cast.

He left Seattle for Boston and was joined by Nicholas Lyndhurst, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Anders Keith, Jess Salgueiro and Toks Olagundoye.

Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith Sternin in both Cheers and Frasier, appeared in one episode, while Roz Doyle actress Peri Gilpin made a surprise appearance in the final.

While we're still waiting for David Hyde Pierce to reclaim his share of Niles Crane, it's now been confirmed that Peri has been promoted to recurring guest star for the upcoming series.

Fans couldn't get enough of the announcement and flocked to social media to celebrate Roz's return.

Kingofwishful welcomed the news on Reddit, writing, “Our queen Rozalinda is back.”

Throw_blanket04 replied: 'Yes! This is what we need.'

“I would love to see her in every episode,” Devonairo agreed.

As JasonGryphon predicted, we could eventually see the character's daughter, Alice, make a move with her.

“Eventually, Roz will probably move to Boston,” they suggested. “One day Alice will show up and that will spark a love interest for Freddy or David.”

Filming has begun and James Burrows will direct the first two episodes, but it is currently unclear when the show will premiere.

Peri played the radio producer for the entire run of the original seriesand was a firm favorite with viewers.

She returned late last year for the revival's season finale – but was only on our screens for a few minutes.

She lifted the lid on returning to the Frasier universe after a nearly two-decade absence, sharing that things were “bittersweet” without her former castmates — in the wake of the death of Martin Crane star John Mahoney.

“I just loved doing this,” she told Entertainment Weekly. 'It was a fantasy come true to play that role again and go back into that world.

“And there are bittersweet things because it makes me so sad when I think about John. I miss him. He was a good friend, but I feel like they had to deal with that.

“They go back to John as often as possible and refer back. They refer back to Cheers. They hark back to our first Frasier and I feel like we're a part of it a little bit. It felt really comfortable and great there and it was really funny. It's like a comfort when you look at it.

“You say, 'Oh my God, I'm going to see this again. It's new, fresh, but I get the same feelings as when I saw it for the first time.”

Frasier is now available to stream on Paramount+.
