Celebrities dared to bare all at this year's Met Gala, with nudity and sheer fashion becoming the central style for stars like Emily Ratajkowski and Rita Ora.
The theme this year was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, with a dress code The garden of time.
For some, they considered this the Garden of Eden, taking inspiration from Adam and Eve themselves to wear virtually nothing with only their essentials covered.
Both Emily, 32, and Rita, 33, captured onlookers' attention with their daring sheer looks at the 2024 Met Gala.
The Victoria's Secret model walked the green carpet in a figure-hugging, silver lace dress with a dainty, leaf-like design.
The sheer dress left little to the imagination as she wore only a pair of thong bottoms underneath the sheer ensemble which exposed her bare chest and bum.
The back had a large cutout, exposing her bare back and stopping right above her revealing underwear.
Emily wore the front part of her dark brown hair parted in the middle, allowing her bangs to frame her perfectly made-up face, while the back was pulled up into an elegant bun.
Rita had an equally stunning Met Gala look.
Arriving at the fashion event with her husband, Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi, the Anywhere singer wore a floor-length strappy garment over a sheer bodysuit.
The over-the-shoulder garment featured strips of yellow, purple and green material that accentuated Rita's slim figure while covering the more intimate parts of her body.
Her brunette hair was styled in a messy, wet look that hung on her head while drawing attention to her sculpted facial features.
On X, formally Twitter, fans commented on the For You singer's ensemble.
One person accused Rita of dressing like Kanye's wife Bianca Censori, 29, writes: “Rita Ora, cosplaying as… Bianca Censori?”
'Why is Rita Ora dressed like Bianca Censori?' a second follower asked.
The sentiment continued, with another commenter asking: “Why is everyone trying to be Bianca Censori?”
Rita wasn't the only star in attendance getting harsh feedback.
Met Gala 2024 theme
The theme of the 2024 Met Gala is The Garden of Time, inspired by the Costume Institute's latest exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, entitled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
WOW, ZEN!
Zendaya wore a colorful dress to the Met Gala this year, but fans were divided on her peacock-inspired outfit.
The actress wore a custom Margiela by Galliano dress, inspired by a Christian Dior spring 1999 haute couture piece.
The strapless dress featured a puffy blue sash that covered one shoulder as she walked the green carpet.
The Challengers star completed the look with a matching beret and makeup that matched the colors of her dress.
While the outfit certainly lived up to the theme of The Garden of Time, fans at X were divided in their opinions.
“Oh Zendaya never disappoints,” one declared, while another said, “Hard pass.”
“She could have gone in so many different directions,” they continued.
“Mmmh, what kind of makeup is this?” a third fan asked.
MEET THE MET
The theme for the 2024 Gala, The Garden of Time, is inspired by the Costume Institute's latest exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, entitled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
The exhibition is said to feature around 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute's permanent collection, which spans the past 400 years of fashion history.
Items and designs from fashion houses Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy and more are all on display.
Once again this year, the magic of CGI, AI and other animations is used to showcase some of the rarest outfits that are too fragile to put on display.
Including this year's hosts ZendayaJennifer “JLo” Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth.
The event was founded in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert as a charity event to raise money for the Costume Institute.
The Met Gala was held in locations such as Central Park, the Rainbow Room and the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
Now, however, it has turned into a colossal cocktail and dinner event, hosting around 400 to 450 hand-picked guests.
A single ticket costs a whopping $75,000, while a 10-seat table starts at a whopping $350,000.
AFTER PARTY
After the main festivities were over, celebrities flocked to a series of after-parties – and took the chance to change their wardrobe.
Rita was even riskier with her choice of appearance, changing into a completely transparent ensemble that left her breasts exposed.
The white draped outfit featured giant starfish covering her hips and pelvic area, with dozens of strings of pearls hanging down to give the illusion of a skirt.
She stayed warm with a huge fur sheet over her arms and shoulders.
Kendall Jenner opted for a lace number with wide sleeves and a corset.
Sydney Sweeney opted for a full leather backless one and wore a statement black cropped wig.
Emily Ratajkowski donned a blue, sheer negligee-style dress, which exposed her bra and thong.
