A 16-year-old British girl was raped while on holiday with her parents in Crete, it has been reported.

The teenager was attacked after leaving her parents to go to the toilet at a bar in the popular resort of Mali, according to a police report cited in local media.

Her attacker allegedly followed her to the bathroom and fled soon after.

The 16-year-old immediately went to a police station with her mother and reported the incident.

Reports in Greek newspapers indicate that police identified the suspect from CCTV footage taken in the bar and surrounding businesses.

He is said to be a 28-year-old man of Pakistani descent and is now the subject of a manhunt.

The incident comes a year after a 24-year-old British woman was raped in a hotel room in nearby Rethymno.

Two British teenagers are accused of luring her back to their room after a night of heavy drinking and assaulting her while filming the incident.

They have been released, but must report monthly to the Greek embassy in London during the investigation.

The same year, two Pakistani men were jailed for the rape of another British teenager, also in Rethymno.

The attackers, aged 27 and 24, approached the 18-year-old while she was sunbathing and pinned her to the sunbed.

Last year, another British tourist was raped in Hersonissos, claiming she was attacked by a taxi driver who took her to a remote location instead of her hotel.

It is believed that the suspect has not yet been arrested.
