Google Messages wants to ensure that you don't see text messages from blocked contacts anywhere

TL; DR

  • Google Messages now hides messages from blocked contacts in group chats.
  • However, the blocked people can still see your messages.

Google Messages is preparing a small but useful new feature that will prevent you from seeing messages from blocked contacts anywhere in the app.

The latest beta version of Google Messages includes the new feature, which is a regular occurrence Android Authority contributor Assemble Debug managed to activate. It essentially hides messages from blocked contacts, even in group chats.

If you currently block someone in Google Messages, you'll still see their messages in group chats. The new beta update to Google Messages now extends that blocking method to groups as well. So if you block someone, you won't see their messages in the group chat. However, blocked contacts can still see your messages in a group chat, which is a bit strange, but that's how it works for now.

Above are screenshots of how the feature works. When you have blocked contacts in a group chat, you will also see a pop-up warning you that you may not see all the messages in that chat because it contains contacts you have blocked.
