Google will significantly improve data migration between phones

Android's data migration tool has improved over the years, but there are still some glaring holes in the whole process and it's not as seamless as it should be, especially compared to the likes of Apple's solution. Not to mention that switching between different brands by relying on third-party apps can often result in some settings or data not being transferred. Therefore, using Android's built-in data migration tool is preferable.

Well, according to a report from Android AuthorityGoogle will also soon make this process a lot better and faster. Perhaps the best part is that you can transfer data even after you set up your new phone. Currently, the migration only works when setting up your new phone and will work with a wired or wireless connection or a Google Drive backup.

This brings us to the second improvement: speed. The improved tool is said to use a new “MultiTransportD2DTransport” protocol that uses Wi-Fi and a wired connection at the same time, increasing transfer speed.

Additionally, any settings you've changed on your new phone won't be overwritten when transferring data after you set up the handset, and you can only migrate data from a device you've previously used to copy your data. Those are some limitations to keep in mind.

Anyway, this is good news for Android users as the Data Restore Tool needed an upgrade and these changes sound quite nice.
