Graham Potter turned down an offer to manage Ajaxaccording to reports.
The 48-year-old has disappeared from management since being sacked by Chelsea just over a year ago.
Ajax fired Maurice Steijn in October and is looking for a long-term successor for John van't Schip, the current interim head coach.
Potter has held talks with the Eredivisie club with a view to a takeover at the end of the season.
However, The Athletics reports that although Potter was 'impressed' by Ajax, he has rejected a move to the Dutch club.
The report claims Potter felt managing Ajax 'was not the right choice for him at this time'.
Potter's decision means the door remains open for a possible move to Manchester United this summer.
Erik ten Hag's position at Old Trafford was further threatened on Monday evening after United were beaten 4-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Thomas Tuchel, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the seasonhas already indicated he would welcome the opportunity to manage United.
'This is a difficult road where you are leading me. I'd rather not answer,” Tuchel said when asked about a possible return to the Premier League.
'But it's no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England and I certainly loved it in the Premier League. It was a very special time in England and I remember it very well.'
