Grimsby ‘Christmas tree’ decorated with beer bottles splits opinion | UK | News

Decorate one Christmas tree is always a matter of taste, with some people still preferring tinsel and others for a simple silver or gold color scheme. But one ‘tree’ on a residential area has sent things in a very different direction, resulting in divided opinions.

A resident of the Nunsthorpe estate in Grimsby has decorated a bush near their home by covering it with lager and cider bottles.

Seemingly going for a blue theme, they used a collection of Frosty Jack’s bottles and Kronenbourg cans.

And they even added one Merry Christmas banner to get people in the party mood.

A video of their creation has been viewed more than 35,000 times on social media by people living on the estate, as well as from around the world.

Grimsby Live reports that some see the decoration as a bit of harmless fun, but others don’t like it because they think it’s filthy and gives the city a bad name.

Nunsthorpe resident Marsha Dye thinks the ‘boom’ is a step too far.

She said: “I think it should be removed in my opinion. I don’t really like the way it looks.

“It’s not what you want to see Christmas times I think baubles would have looked better than a load of empty bottles and cans.”

An employee of KC’s Hair Studio said: “It looks a mess, but as such we’re not really bothered by it. In the summer the people who did it were also here picking up litter, so they’re not bad people .

“It’s been almost a week here now, but this is something they do almost every year.

“Last year there was red tinsel around one of the benches, but they’ve never gone that far.”

Another resident agreed that it should be removed, saying: “It looks filthy, it’s like they have nothing better to do, I really think it needs to go.”

But one man, who declined to be named, said: “I think it’s really funny. I’d just leave it at that to be honest.

“If you throw it away I think it would upset the guy who put it all there. It’s just a joke really, he just made his own Christmas tree because he doesn’t have one.”
