But it is not always clear what to do if there are disruptive travelers on board.

Fighting with children is never easy for parents as entertainment on board an airplane is somewhat limited.

So what if they decide to entertain themselves by flipping up the back of your seat?

Former flight attendant Bobby Laurie explained the best way to approach the situation and when the right time is to press the call button for help.

He told Conde Nast traveler : “Distraction seems to be a reliable method for calming a rambunctious child. But even a fellow passenger's most valiant attempts to calm a child down can fall short.”

“Those inaudible annoyances like kick the chair for them, excessively pressing the call button, climbing over and under the seats and ignoring the seat belt sign?

“Most of these actions are safety-related and warrant a flight attendant being involved if things get out of hand.”

However, he added that it is not easy for flight attendants to solve this either, admitting that some parents are better than others.

If you're the parent in question whose children don't do particularly well on flights, there are some tricks that can help them stay calm.

As a rule, it is good to take enough toys and snacks with you for the journey.

Emirates cabin crew Emily Jones advises: “Take a mix of old and new toys and make a game of handing out the toys by wrapping them up and asking your children to guess what's inside.

“For babies and toddlers, think about stacking cups and boxes, anything that you can 'hide' other small toys in.”

Also don't forget to bring pajamas, plus a spare, so your kids can feel comfortable and have something to change into in case of accidents or spills.

Norwegian Air's cabin crew did the same has shared some great tips with Sun Online Travel.

Liliana Chantre, Senior Cabin Crew, said: “Bring noise-cancelling headphones for newborns and toddlers – these will help them feel calm and relaxed and also help with pressure changes.”

And Lee Allen, cabin crew, said: “I always take lavender balm with me. Just place a touch on the child's temple to keep them calm. During a night flight, the soothing scent helps promote sleep.”

And don't be afraid to ask for help. As Emily Jones, Emirates cabin crew, said: “We love meeting your little ones and are happy to have visitors in the galley, keeping us entertained even on long flights!

“I recently entertained a five-month-old baby for half an hour while the mother went to the toilet and put her things in order. She told me it was the best 30 minutes of her 22-hour journey!

“Flying with children can be stressful enough, so let the cabin crew help you get some rest.”
