He burst onto the scene with ten goals in 23 games while on loan at Northampton and Brentford.

A new stint in Peterborough followed earlier Saido Berahino finally got his Premier League breakthrough in the 2013/2014 campaign.

The now 30-year-old scored nine times that season, but followed that up with 20 the following season.

Having already represented England at U17 level and at the 2012 U19 European Championship, his attractive club form has earned him further international recognition.

Gareth Southgate called him up to his U21 side, where he and he Kanewho has become his country's all-time top scorer, were both in attack.

Berahino was even voted 2014 U21 Player of the Year by the supporters, receiving 16 percent more votes than the now Three Lions captain and Bayern Munich star.

The pair could even have been strike partners at club level, as Tottenham had a £22 million transfer bid rejected by West Brom in August 2015.

Having failed to secure his big-money transfer, the goals dried up that season as he scored just seven and then drew a complete blank in 2016/17 after further bids from Stoke and Crystal Palace were rejected.

Finally, he secured his departure from the Hawthorns in January 2017 in a £15 million deal Stoke but it turned into a nightmare.

He didn't manage to score for the Potters until August 2018, but he would only score four more despite Stoke now in the Championship.

Berahino's England hopes were also over at that point – although by then he had become a regular in the Burundian squad and featured in the African Nations Cup.

That summer he tried to revive his career in Belgium at top stage Waregem, where he scored six in 18 appearances.

After starting with them the following season, he moved on loan to Charleroi before briefly returning to Waregem.

Berahino returned to England in 2021 for a season with Sheffield Wednesday, where he scored eight times.

He has been plying his trade in Cyprus since leaving Hillsborough the following year and continues to work at AEL Limassol today.

Berahino has represented nine clubs and two countries throughout his much-travelled career, playing with literally hundreds of different players.

But instead of choosing Kane, he opted for a Scotland international when asked in a Q&A on X about the best player he has played with.

Can you name the famous fathers?

“Graham Dorrans,” was his almost immediate response.

The now 37-year-old played for West Brom for seven years from 2008 and later for two years at Norwich.

He returned to Scotland in 2017 to join Rangers and then Dundee, ahead of a spell in Australia.

While Dorrans stuck with his choice during the Q&A as the question was asked multiple times, he looked a lot closer to home when asked about “the best and worst teammate.”

Berahino replied: “Dear Dorans. The worst of myself.”
