Ian Wright has criticized fellow experts Jamie Carragher for 'disrespectful' Casemiro after Manchester United's dismal 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Erik ten Hag's reign as United boss reached a new low on Monday evening while Palace secured a remarkable victory thanks to Michael Olise's brace and goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell.

It is the first time Crystal Palace has ever recorded a league double against Manchester United and the shock result is only set to increase research into the future of Ten Hag.

Carragher described United's performance on Monday Night Football as 'embarrassing' singled out Casemiro for criticismstating that it was clear he could no longer play at an elite level.

'Casemiro, as an experienced player, must know tonight that he only has three top-level games left to play – the next two [Premier] competition matches and the [FA] cup final – then he should think I should go to MLS or Saudi Arabia,” said the Sky Sports expert.

“I'm dead serious – his agent, the team of people around him, they need to tell him: this has got to stop.

'We are looking at one of the greats of the modern era, who plays in the best midfield we have ever seen and who has dominated Europe. [Toni] Duckweed aside, [Luka] Modric on the other hand was one of the best midfielders.

'It could easily have come against the Barcelona midfield that we all loved so much [Sergio] Busquets, Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta. So he's been absolutely amazing.

'I am nowhere near the level of what that man has achieved, [winning] Champions Leagues, playing for Brazil and Real Madrid.

'But I always remember something when I retired myself, and there was a saying that I always remember as a footballer: “Leave football before football leaves you.”

'Football has left him – at this top level. He needs to quit at this level of football and move on.”

Casemiro won five Champions Leagues and previously spent almost ten years at Real Madrid join Manchester United in 2022.

The 32-year-old initially impressed at Old Trafford but his performances have declined this season, not helped by being forced into defense due to United's injury crisis.

Wright believes Casemiro would perform much better in a more functional side and says Carragher's comments about the Brazilian were 'disrespectful'.

“I wanted to quickly mention Casemiro because he was one of the main talking points after that match,” the former Arsenal and England forward said on television. Wrighty's House podcast.

“We saw Jamie Carragher mention him on the show, about how great he's been over the years and how maybe he should quit now and go to MLS or Saudi, which I thought was really disrespectful if I'm honest.

“If you look at Casemiro and what United have always needed, he was very good when he came and I don't think he thought for one minute that he would find himself in such a disorganized situation at this point in his career .

'To go to Manchester United and play in that stadium and at that stage of his career would have been so difficult for him to turn down.

'He would never have seen United in the position they are in now and would not have thought he would be so spotlighted by the team.

“No matter what people say about him, I don't think he's ready. I don't think he is. You can tell we're talking about a world-class player who played on a world-class team. A club of United's stature should have players who can help him.

'People say he's 32 so he must be gone, no. At that age I was still fine. You're not over yet. It's all about the players and the structure around you. He needs more help, but he doesn't have it.'

Manchester United, who are eighth in the Premier League, have three league games remaining and host current leaders Arsenal on Sunday before wrapping up the season against Newcastle United and Brighton.

The struggling Red Devils could still end a disappointing season winning the FA Cup when the Ten Hag team meets Manchester City in the Wembley final on May 25.
