Taking a stab at one Only murders in the building-like show, Bodkin is Netflix's latest offering for fans, launching on May 9.
The series focuses on podcasters in Ireland trying to solve a cold case from many years ago.
Although it may sound sinister, the series is a dark comedy full of humor, funny one-liners and hilarious characters that add color and fun to this thriller.
In the trailer, the characters indicate that they are in the 'a*** end of nowhere', but fans want to know if the coastal town actually exists, or was simply made up for the series.
What is Bodkin on Netflix about?
With Will Forte as an American podcaster and Siobhán Cullen as the reluctant investigative journalist from Dublin with whom he works. The TV series follows a group of podcasters who investigate mysterious disappearances which took place over twenty years ago in a charming town in Ireland.
Forte stars as Gilbert Power, who decides to enter the true-crime genre after having a previous hit documenting his wife's cancer.
To explore his Irish heritage, he chooses to investigate the disappearance of three people from Bodkin in Cork, Ireland, during the annual Samhain festival.
Despite an icy initial reception from the locals in the area, the characters adjust to their place and begin to discover the truth in this show full of dark humor.
Where is Bodkin filmed?
Bodkin isn't actually a place in Ireland, but filming took place over the summer of 2022 mainly in West Cork, where Bodkin is supposed to be located.
Most of 'Bodkin' was filmed at Union Hall, a fishing village located on the west side of Glandore harbour. A 2016 census showed that the village had only 260 inhabitants.
Siobhán Cullen, who plays a journalist named Dove in the show, narrates Emphatic: 'Union Hall makes the perfect Bodkin.
'It's so breathtaking and it encapsulates everything people imagine about the beauty of Ireland. It's all there, it's such a beautiful place.'
Key locations in Cork include Poulgorm Bridge and Glandore.
Other filming locations were in Wicklow and Dublin, and filming lasted over six months. Eagle-eyed viewers can also spot scenes shot at Travelhawk Beach in Wicklow and Howth Castle and Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin.
Is it based on a true story?
The show's creators have stated that the series is completely fictional. “No real story, no real place,” said executive producer Alex Metcalf Tum.
Series creator Jez Scharf added: “It's a fake city, it's a fake place. They're all fake people.
'On the mystery itself, we worked very hard to find something that in no way borders on a real true crime story. The fictionality of it was very deliberate.”
Bodkin was released on Netflix on May 9 and is now available to stream.
