It's clear: you don't trust AI-generated search results

Google has been embracing AI in its searches for some time now through its so-called SGE initiative. This allows AI to be used for results summaries and more. However, it turns out that OpenAI may be one AI-powered search engine from himself.

However, should search engines bother to incorporate AI into their search results? It turns out that a lot of surveyed users on our website, X accountAnd YouTube page simply don't trust AI-generated search results.

Distrust around AI in search

Some interest in AI-powered search

It seems our audience thinks there are benefits to a ChatGPT-powered search engine from OpenAI itself, with the most popular choice on YouTube (45%) and Twitter (31.97%) being 'yes, for some searches'. But this was not the most popular choice on our website: only 24.46% of readers chose this option.

Some people like YouTube followers trobinson14kc I think AI-powered search could be useful for a number of tasks:

AI is useful for specific things, like getting a quick explanation (assuming you know how to ask the question) or saying you're writing a paper you don't have time for. Otherwise, Google Search is better in so many ways. (easy to refine, get price quotes, map, etc.)

This was also echoed by a few other users, who pointed out potential functionality such as finding products on Amazon.

Meanwhile, only 14% of YouTube respondents, 16.67% of website readers surveyed, and 17.88% of Twitter users claimed they would “definitely” use a ChatGPT search engine and even make it their primary search engine.

But the lack of trust runs deep

However, the most popular answer on our website was “no, not for me”, with 30.51% of website readers voting this way. This rose to 29.1% on Twitter, but fell to 25% on YouTube.

YouTube follower a child2091 believed that AI had already had a negative impact on Google searches:

AI has already ruined Google search. I can only imagine it would be even worse.

Several other users expressed concerns about inaccurate information and hallucinations. “The scariest thing about AI search for me is that it can be completely wrong,” said one user superhamz7.

Still, between surveyed users willing to try out an AI-powered search engine and respondents who “definitely” will use it, it certainly seems like there is a lot of interest in this endeavor. But any future ChatGPT-powered search engine from OpenAI would have to seriously address quality issues if it wants to be here in the long run.
