Jamie Carragher labeled Casemiro's performance as “embarrassing” during the first half of the film That of Manchester United Premier League collide with Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

United had a first 45 minutes to forget at Selhurst Park as Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta put Palace two goals ahead at the break.

Olise's goal was the result of an excellent individual run from the halfway line, as the Palace winger trickled past Casemiro before racing unchallenged towards United's penalty area and finishing low past Andre Onana.

Mateta doubled Palace's lead in the 40th minute when he beat Jonny Evans before firing high past Onana at his near post.

During his half-time analysis for Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Carragher was furious with Casemiro's poor defending for Olise's opener and urged United manager Erik ten Hag to beat the Brazilian before the start of the second half.

“Listen, that's him [Casemiro] playing out of position tonight, but this has nothing to do with playing out of position, that could be a midfield role,” Carragher said.

“I mean, that's embarrassing. They have to take him away. Honestly, he needs to come off the field.

'Nothing is worse than Casemiro playing as a central defender in this second half Manchester United. Put down [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka in the middle and deploy someone as a full-back.'

Former United winger Ashley Young added: “If you look at the first goal it's crazy the way they are [United] set up. There are five players out of position.

'It's only one Olise flight and he just walks into it.

“It's shabby, to be honest. Casemiro, I don't know what he's doing, maybe he thinks Olise is backing down, Olise sees him coming out to take on a challenge and literally just walks past him, it's so easy.”
