Jon Stewart calls reporting on 'Penis-to-Penis' Trump trial 'numbing'

Jon Stewart continued with his criticism of media coverage of Donald Trump's trial in New York during Thursday's episode The Daily Show. “It's been another big week of wall-to-wall, non-stop penis-to-penis coverage of the Donald Trump trial,” Stewart said at the start of his monologue.

Stewart, who usually hosts Monday night episodes of the Comedy Central show, missed this week's start in one pre-announced absence that was likely due to his live performances in Los Angeles last weekend. Instead, he hosted this week Thursday episode.

Also this week, Stormy Daniels testified in the former president's hush-money trial in New York, further fueling headlines about the lawsuit.

“The ubiquitous reporting is numbing, fading into television wallpaper with insights that only occasionally shine through,” Stewart continued.

This week's episode isn't the first time Stewart has gone after the media coverage of the trial. In a Daily show The segment that aired in late April titled “America's Most Tremendably Wanted,” Stewart said the trial “will clearly be a test of the fairness of the American justice system.” But it is also a test of the media's ability to responsibly report on Donald Trump, a task at which they have acknowledged they have performed poorly in the past.”

“Maybe this hyperfocus from our news media is purposeful, to distract Americans by keeping visions of dancing penises in their heads,” Stewart continued Thursday. “All the while, Americans are losing their freedoms at home.”

The rest of his monologue focused on the right-wing backlash against the Biden administration's clean energy initiatives, the official name change from the Boy Scouts of America to Scouting America, and the president's recent threat to further strengthen the Israeli government remember weapons.

“The Biden administration has halted one shipment of 3,500 rounds of ammunition out of the more than 300,000 rounds Israel has already dropped on Gaza to try to prevent the Israelis from attacking the area where all the refugees from this war are currently sheltering,” Stewart said, and then took aim at conservatives — including Trump — who said Biden's move was a shame.

“I apologize to you, Rabbi,” Stewart said satirically in response to Trump's comments. “Thank you so much for taking time off from your condomless porn star hush money trial to give a shameful lecture to Jews. I will reflect on your moral standing next Yom Kippur.”
