Jonny Bairstow: England cricket star banned from T20 World Cup after surgery

J

onny Bairstow will be out of action until 2023 after successful surgery on his broken leg and dislocated ankle.

Bairstow was ruled out of the rest of the summer and the T20 World Cup due to a freak injury sustained on the golf course in September. He will also miss the December test series in Pakistan.

“The actual injury was…a fractured fibula in three places that required a plate. I dislocated my ankle, which in turn meant doing my syndesmosis joint and lateral ligament along with a few more bits,” Bairstow wrote. on Instagram.

“On the plus side, the surgery went well and I am now three weeks post surgery and my staples have been removed.

“Now it’s all about preventing swelling and getting my ankle moving again.”

Bairstow, 33, added it was too early to say when he could expect to start playing again, but he certainly wouldn’t be back before the end of the year.

“One thing is certain and that is that I will not participate in anything in 2022 … but I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store,” he said.
