Kate Winslet receives the CineMerit Award from the Munich Film Festival

Oscar winner Kate Winslet will be honored this year in Munich International film festival with the festival's CineMerit Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Winslet will be present at the German festival to present the European premiere of her new film, Lee, where she plays war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller. She receives the CineMerit Award after the screening in Munich Lee and will participate in a sit-down discussion.

Directed by Ellen Kuras, Lee premiered in Toronto last year. Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Noémie Merlant, Josh O'Connor and Andy Samberg star. Winslet is also a producer of the film. StudioCanal is released Lee in Germany, in theaters here in September.

“We are very pleased that Kate Winslet will celebrate the European premiere of the film with us in Munich,” festival director Christoph Gröner and artistic co-director Julia Weigl said in a joint statement. “Lee is a wonderfully intense character portrait. It is important to us that the Munich International Film Festival, with its many films and voices, sends a clear signal for democracy, diversity and cohesion.”

Another iconic Oscar-winning actress, Jessica Lange, will also be honored in Munich this year with the CineMerit prize.

The 41st Munich Film Festival runs from June 28 to July 7.
