Kim Kardashian is never far from controversy, especially when it comes to beauty standards – and the prestigious Met Gala is no different.
The star on the red carpet of like Lana Del Rey while the other eldest Kardashian sisters ditched the huge one New York event.
The Met Gala would hardly be complete without it Kim caused a stir but this year many say she has gone too far in the name of fashion.
We're two years ahead of her controversial decision wear Marilyn Monroe's priceless dress for the In America theme, but this time it's not the clothing lovers who are worried.
For the 2024 Garden of Time look, the Skims founder donned a Maison Margiela corset and cinched her waist within an inch of her life.
That unattainable figure seemed to be a struggle even for Kim, as she appeared short of breath on the Met Gala runway.
She showed off the silver corset, which featured cascading silver leaf details that formed a floor-length sheer skirt.
Her look was completed with a gray cropped John Galliano cardigan, which she delicately wrapped around her shoulders.
Kim wore her platinum blonde hair loose around her face and subtly hit back at speculation that bleach had damaged it so badly that it fell out in a so-called chemical cut.
As stunning as the dress was, fans were not impressed with the media mogul's extreme corsets.
“Y'all Kim k can't breathe in this dress…” Ayah wrote on X alongside a video of the reality star walking and feeling uncomfortable while taking short, shallow breaths.
“She is clearly having trouble holding her breath,” Odogwu Anioma replied as Manicore added, “Kim give up, I know your intestines are begging for help.”
“Good, this should be a telltale sign that she is NOT the direction we should be taking in beauty and fashion,” cowboyish Jonah added.
“Kim K literally looks like she's going to pass out when she tries to breathe[e] in her dress,” Kassidy added.
Ciandria shared, “Mom. We don't care how small your waist is. You shouldn't care either. Let it out girl! Don't let the internet influence you like that.'
Because the Kardashian family so often plays a key role in influencing major trends, Kim's ripped waist could be doing more than just damaging her ability to breathe.
Fans are concerned that this will lead to a return to horribly small waists and a push, especially on femme-presenting people, to become increasingly thinner.
The hourglass figure has dominated the fashion world for years, even Kim's idol Marilyn was known for her curves.
However, as plastic surgery becomes more and more common, expectations and standards for desirable bodies are slipping further and further away from what people actually look like.
Although Kim probably used the drag technique of padding to push her butt forward and make her waist appear smaller, the impact on impressionable people is the same.
Hopefully the Skims founder's breathing problems will counter any desire to bring back comically small waists as a beauty standard.
