Kim Kardashian Met Gala 2024: Cozy cashmere and corset

Straying from her signature Met Gala ensemble, Kim Kardashian stepped out in a cozy meets couture look.

The reality star and brand mogul wore Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano. The designer created a haute couture ensemble consisting of a light gray cashmere cardigan, a couture corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt decorated with silver metal.

The luxury fashion brand said the look was meant to evoke lace, flowers, leaves and twigs, alongside silver chains and floral motifs cut from mirror fragments. The silhouette was “inspired by the symbiotic love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and her jewelry,” according to a press release.

Kardashian has been a constant at the Met Gala in recent years. Interviewed by longtime best friend La La Anthony for Fashion on the red carpet, she said she's most looking forward to the chance to see the people who matter to her at fashion's biggest night.

“I'm really looking forward to seeing friends,” Kardashian said on the red carpet. “I'm looking forward to seeing my sisters,” she added.

Kardashian said that she and her sisters are all in a group chat before going to the event and that they are “all nervous no matter how many times they attend.” She also said the Kardashian family is trying to coordinate where to meet on the red carpet.

This year's dress code, 'The Garden of Time', is inspired by the Short story from 1962 with the same name by JG Ballard, which fits in nicely with the newest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Reawakening, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. Curated by Andrew Bolton, the show highlights fragile pieces from the institute's archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. From the exhibition coffee table book will be released on June 18.
