Lily Allen says 'Nepo baby' is 'sexist' because the term is only used for women: Singer says she's called it 'all the time' but her brother Alfie isn't

The condition 'fake baby' is sexist because women are called it, but men are not, Lily Allen Has claimed.

The hitmaker and daughter of famous actor Keith Allen responded to the phrase, saying she is called it 'all the time' while her brother, actor Alfie, avoids it.

The Smile singer, 39, added that the spot was “infantilizing” and compared it to the insult “Karen” – because it is used to attack women.

She told her: Miss Me? podcast: 'Nepo babies, I think it's a lot like 'Karen' in that it's just a word that's basically used for women who take up space and we'd rather they not do that and they just go away have to go. '

Allen and her Game of Thrones actor brother Alfie are the children of comedian Keith Allenwho has already appeared dozens of times on the big screen and wrote the lyrics for the football song Vindaloo.

Allen said she has no problem with cronyism being criticized — and even admitted there was “some truth” in it — but took issue with the term “baby.”

She said, “I get called a nepo baby all the time.

'Actually, I don't mind the nepotism so much, it's the 'baby' that irritates me, it's like: I'm almost 40 years old!

'It's meant to be infantilizing.

“I also think it's something that's used almost exclusively for women, I don't think I can really name male nepo babies.

'For example, my brother is not called nepo baby, and I am.

“I feel like for the last 15 or 20 years, whenever people write about me, it's always going to be 'Lily Allen, daughter of Keith Allen,' and I don't see that happening very often with guys. does with girls.

“It's always like we're talking about women in these spaces… there's a follow-up to what it really was that got them there.

“There's some truth to it, I grew up in a certain class, I grew up in and around people who worked in the media, and I don't think I've ever really disputed that.”

She added: “If you grew up in relative poverty, I don't think there's really much difference between Keith Allen and Rod Stewart.

“Obviously it is, but I just think that in terms of your proximity to privilege, it is a privilege.”

The singer said she thinks the term comes from her generation of creatives who often have to work for free to get ahead.

'When we were young, especially in the creative industries, we often had to work for free for long periods of time to get our foot in the door.

“I think that's a big part of why we're having this nepo-baby conversation with our generation.

“Because only people are financially comfortable enough, or come from families with enough wealth and disposable income, to support their children while their children work.

'Only families have money for that.'

This is not the first time she has tackled this subject.

In 2022, she said online that many such “nepos” are “starved of stability and love” because of their “narcissistic” parents.

She added: “When we talk about real world consequences and robbing people of opportunity. BUT that's none of my business.'

“And before you come at me for being a nepo baby myself, I'll be the first to tell you that I literally deserve nothing.”

And back in 2015, she claimed to have “probably spent more time walking my dogs than my entire life with my dad,” in response to online bullies.
