Major police incident in Paisley involving man 'chasing officers with chainsaw' | UK | News

A man has been arrested after chasing police officers with a chainsaw on a public holiday on Monday.

Officers closed Glasgow Road in Paisley following reports of the incident at around 1pm on May 6.

Footage shared on social media appeared to show a man brandishing an electric saw, with eyewitnesses claiming they saw a crash involving a black car and a police vehicle before the altercation.

One image shared online shows a marked police car crashing into the wall of a property near where the incident took place.

Residents said a stream of unmarked and marked police cars and vans appeared within seconds of the alarm going off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “At around 1pm on Monday 6 May, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision between a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

“Two officers were injured and treated by paramedics. A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

“There is no greater risk to the public and officers remain at the scene while investigations are ongoing.

“Glasgow Road is closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use an alternative route.”
