Vitor Roque's agent has criticized Xavi's handling of the Brazilian forward and claims the 19-year-old could leave Barcelona this season. summer.

Last year, Barcelona fended off competition from several clubs from across Europe, including Manchester United and Tottenhamto sign Vitor Roque in a €61m (£52.2m) deal from Athletico Paranaense.

Vitor Roque joined Barcelona in January but struggled to impress in his first five months at the club. He started just two games and made a further eleven appearances off the bench.

'Everyone thinks Vitor Roque should get more minutes and no one understands why the coach [Xavi] does not give them to him,” said Andre Cury, Vitor Roque's representative, in an interview on RAC1.

'Xavi has never spoken to the player. I don't understand this situation and I don't think it's good for either party.

“I told the boy that he has to work even harder and wait for the opportunity, but I also saw matches to give him minutes and exposure to avoid this unpleasant situation.

'I think the team is conceding a lot of goals and that doesn't help.

'With 300 minutes he has two goals and I would say he is the top scorer of the team in terms of average minutes played.

'Look what happened to Vinicius Jr. happened in Madrid: it took him two and a half years to play. A mess has already arisen here within two months and people want to kill and kill, instead of helping. It's something I don't understand.'

Cury also made it clear that he will push for Vitor Roque's permanent departure this summer if he is not part of Barcelona's plans under Xavi.

'I've already spoken to Deco. The boy has a contract with Barca and we chose Barca over other options where we could earn double the money,” Cury said.

'I am sure that Vitor Roque will be a great player, but if Barça does not allow him, the club or the coach, I don't know what happens internally, we will look for another way.

'We don't want a loan. If the club decides he cannot stay, he will be sold. There are many teams interested in Vitor Roque.

'If the club does not give Vitor space, we will have to look for a solution. Either he stays, or he is transferred, no loan, it is very dangerous for the boy's career.

“The best thing would be to stay at Barca, but if he can't stay, we will work on a transfer.”
