Meghan Markle has likely decided to stay home during Prince Harry's return to Britain to avoid “any more disparaging comments”, according to a royal writer.

Dr. Pauline Maclaran, author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture, told Daily Express that the poor popularity ratings in the US point to possible tensions between the public and Meghan if she were to return.

The Duke of Sussex will speak at St. Paul's Cathedral this afternoon to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, a sporting competition he co-founded for injured military personnel.

Dr. MacLaran said: “The fact that Meghan is not with him is not surprising given her ratings in the polls.

“Why risk even more disparaging comments here was probably her answer.
