Meghan Markle's popularity is in the gutter – her monetization of royals was the last straw, expert warns after damning poll

A ROYAL expert has revealed Meghan Markle's popularity is in the gutter due to royal 'earning'.

The Duchess of Sussex's popularity took a major hit when a new poll showed she is not that popular among Britons.

The Ipsos poll, marking the first anniversary of King Charles' coronation, found that as many as 75 percent of Britons are not a fan of Meghan.

Prince Harry has also been hit by the results, languishing at the bottom of the popularity chart with just a 31 percent approval rating.

Meghan, Harry and the royal family have parted ways with so many public appearances causing problems

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams called Meghan's popularity “absolutely appalling”.

He told The Sun Online: “She is the only member of the royal family who has actually gone down.”

Fitzwilliams blames much of Meghan and Harry's popularity problems on their post-royal public lives.

He slammed the couple for “capitalizing” their royal connections.

The expert added: 'The problem is that when the Sussexes were no longer senior working Royals, they started attacking the Royal Family and making money from their Royal connections.

'That seems so destructive to me. They should have made publicity-conscious decisions much earlier.'

But the poll also shows that couples resonate more with the younger generations – with Meghan having a 42 percent share among 18 to 34-year-olds.

However, the expert is convinced that the overall sentiment remains negative.

He added: “Clearly there was support during the period of the Oprah interview and Meghan is American.

'But I think people's eyes have been open to the fact that they are exploiting the connection they have with the Crown and yet also attacking the monarchy.

“If they weren't royals, I don't think there would be any particular interest in them.”

He claims the consequences of these actions are becoming clear following Meghan's decision not to attend Harry's upcoming service at St Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The royal commentator said: “Harry would be wise not to take Meghan to the anniversary of the Invictus Games as that simply wouldn't work.”

The gorge surrounding the couple Omid Scobie's comments and their previous incendiary interviews have done little to repair their fractious relationship with the palace.

He added: “But it's the way Meghan and Harry and the royal family have split and done so with so many public appearances that has caused problems.

'I don't think the royal family is particularly concerned about Harry and Meghan's popularity.

'I think it's the Sussexes who should be concerned about the lack of that because it's very low in Britain. And it's also low in the United States.

'They were quite brutal personal attacks. Personal things have been said about the Prince of Wales and William's alleged attack on Harry, which made the latest headlines in Spare.'

Even if Meghan were to extend an olive branch to the palace, it doesn't mean she is likely to give up her new life in California, he said.

The former Hollywood actress and Harry are focusing on their various media projects – including their non-profit organization Archewell.

Mr Fitzwilliams added: “There is absolutely no doubt that the rest would never have reached this stage if they had stopped or not started attacking the Royal Family because they think they got such a raw deal when they were members.”
