We are now on day 33 of Love Island†A man named Jacques wreaks havoc and worries about… Ronan Keating‘s son Jack and his pale Irish skin under the Mediterranean sun continues to grow.
asa Amor (a villa where the original islanders meet a new cohort of possible love interests) has put relationships to the test.
Back home, in rainy north Kerry, my relationship goes through its own trials and tribulations as my boyfriend and I navigate two casas. You see, my other half is only on day nine of the reality TV show.
He was dubious at first, but after some persuasion, he now has more opinions about the show than I do.
Unfortunately we were slow with the recording.
We’ve put off watching and now our long-distance love struggles under the pressure of a TV show.
When I say long distance I mean a 10 minute drive, but we both live with our parents.
Old-school morals with a touch of old Catholicism are in the air and we’re only allowed to stay in one house.
This means there are very few opportunities to watch the show. At this point, we get an episode once a week. More than likely we will reach the final by Christmas.
In today’s world it is not easy to consume a show on your own time.
A mammoth machine like Love Island has a grip on almost all forms of media.
From traditional news sites to social channels to WhatsApp group chats, it’s impossible to avoid spoilers and I can feel the heat. So much so, I’ve broken my watch promise and I’m already ahead, but it’s getting hard to hide my secret.
Recently he told me how he thinks Ikenna and Indiyah will be the couple to win it.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him that Ikenna had been voted out almost three weeks ago and Indiyah has long forgotten about him.
He avoids all forms of commentary on social media, so in a way he really lives on his own Love Island world. He goes about his day safely in the knowledge that Andrew and Tasha are a solid couple (spoiler: they aren’t) and he’s happy.
I, on the other hand, have no patience.
I need to be up to date and informed. While we watch Episode 10, I’ll be keeping an eye on my phone for Twitter updates on Episode 34. I’m pretty sure if there was a public vote for our antics, I’d be the one who got voted out.
Nevertheless, I continue to sit next to him and nod as he expresses his positive opinion of islanders who have since turned their heads and are so crazy about movement that they are a day away from chatting in a lounger.
But that’s what you do for those you love, right?
