My wife fled our home when she heard about its dark history – now she's staying with her parents and insists we sell

A SAVVY homeowner's decision to save money on his property backfired when his wife learned about its tainted history.

She fled and demanded they sell the house after discovering what happened before they moved in.

Redditor Pleasant_Tear3205 shared the backstory of his home in a viral post.

The 34-year-old explained that nine years ago he was presented with a house price that he felt he couldn't pass up.

“I was fortunate enough to be able to leave college debt-free with a very lucrative degree, and I wanted nothing more than to live on a few acres of land in a quiet house with my dogs,” he explained.

“I spent months shopping around with a few different real estate agents in different cities near my workplace.

“Finally, a real estate agent asked me if I would mind if the house had some history. I said that would depend (I wouldn't want someone showing up with a baseball bat to collect on an unpaid debt).

“He then said there had been a murder-suicide in the house a few years ago.”

The tragic story may have put off some people, but it didn't bother him.

“I didn't think much of it and agreed to view the house. Three minutes after arriving I knew it was perfect for me,” he recalls.

“It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms and sits on three acres of land. The asking price was $481,000, which I knew was a bargain.”

The house, he explained, had been heavily discounted because of its troubled past.

I wanted to redecorate my room so I had to move the built-in wardrobe, but was stunned when I made a gruesome discovery behind it

“The real estate agent agreed it would be at least $100,000 more if a high-profile crime hadn't occurred in it,” he said.

“I made an offer for $445,000, and miraculously the owner agreed. I haven't thought about what happened in the house more than a few times since then.'

Five years later he met the 'love of his life', Jennifer, who quickly fell in love with his house after seeing it.

'We got married last year. Recently Jennifer was at the grocery store and struck up a conversation with an older woman,” he said.

I didn't think much of it and agreed to view the house. Three minutes after arriving I knew it was perfect for me.

“The woman asked where she lived and Jennifer described the location. Apparently the older woman said to her, “Oh, the old Johnson house? “Terrible what happened there,” and explained everything.”

His wife rushed home in a panic to share the news, but was shocked to discover he already knew.

'Jennifer went slack-jawed and said she couldn't live in a place where something so terrible had happened. I replied that she had been doing that for the past year and a half,” he said.

“[She] dramatically fled the house with a suitcase to stay with her parents. She keeps calling me, arguing about selling the house, then hangs up.

“She seems really angry because I didn't tell her, but like I said before, I didn't really care enough to even remember.”

People agreed with him that the incident should not be a dealbreaker for them.

“You had the house for years before you met her. It's not like you were hiding it from her,” one commenter said.

'It's never brought up because you don't think about it. I don't have any advice for your relationship with your wife, but [you’re] Not the hole, in my opinion.”

“I wouldn't think twice about living in a house like that. Most old houses probably had dead bodies in them at one time or another,” said another.

'Even with newer houses, there is a good chance that an older owner has died in them.

“Not to mention that there are human bones scattered all over the Earth.

“If your wife wants to go to a place where no one has ever died, suggest she volunteer to be one of those people who colonize Mars.”
