New iPad Pro and iPad Air do not come with chargers in the EU and UK

Just a few hours ago, Apple unveiled the new one iPad Air 11 And iPad Air 13as well as the new one iPad Pro 11 And iPad Pro 13. The new models can already be ordered in many countries and shipping will start next week.

However, in some countries it may be an unpleasant surprise if you do order. We talk about the European Union And the UKwhere if you buy one of these new tablets you won't get a charger in the box.

It may surprise you to hear, but this is the first time Apple has done something like this for its tablets, even though iPhones have been shipping without a charger in the box for years. That makes the environmental claims even less logical when you think about it: why would a tablet charger be better (or at least less bad) for the environment than a phone charger?

If you live in the EU or the UK, that question is no longer relevant. Now, if you buy a new Apple tablet, you're in the same boat as those buying a new iPhone: you either reuse an existing USB-C charger you have somewhere, or you buy a separate one, which will of course be shipped. its own packaging, creating more waste, not less.

But Apple can save some money (and therefore make some more profit), and you get a good feeling about saving the environment (if you don't think about it for more than two seconds). Win-win, right?
