Nicola Sturgeon news: SNP would immediately be ‘back at the table’ with VK | . after independence Politics | News

Michelle Ballantyne, the former leader of Reform UK Scotland, told GB News that: Nicola Sturgeon would be forced to “sit back to the table” with the UK even if Scotland broke up. The former MSP warned that: independence would backfire on Nicola Sturgeon and could damn the SNP. She noted that the need for cooperation and trade between England and Scotland in particular “would be a mockery of wanting to break loose in the first place”.

Speaking to host Dawn Neesom, Ms Ballantyne said: “We are four nations, one country. We are a family in the UK.

“If you tear a family apart, they can argue and have disagreements, but in the end you tend to come back around the table.

“Even if Scotland were to break, it would very soon be sitting at the table again asking ‘can we share this?’ or ‘can we do this together?’ and ‘can we have unity around that?’

“It would be a mockery to want to break away in the first place.”

She added: “And most of Scotland’s trade takes place over the border with England, so what’s the logic in putting a barrier to that?”

This comes as the Holyrood government moves towards a second Scottish independence referendum.

Earlier this year, the SNP published a referendum bill proposing that Scotland should vote on Scottish independence on October 19, 2023 next year.

The Scottish government has gone to the British Supreme Court to request permission to call the referendum without Westminster’s consent.
