No price hike for Xbox Series X and S consoles confirms Microsoft

The price of the Xbox Series X and S consoles will not increase in the same way as the PS5, but Microsoft has not ruled out a future change.

The fact that Microsoft is a much bigger and richer company than Sony (and really everyone else) has become increasingly apparent over the course of this new generation of consoles, especially in terms of how much money they spent on Game Pass and make all their games available on day one – something Sony can’t afford.

The other thing that Sony cannot afford, they claim, is to avoid a price hike for the PlayStation 5, with the current global inflation crisis causing them to increase the price of both console models by £30.

Microsoft has so far declined to comment on the situation, but after Sony’s announcement, they’ve said they have no plans to change the price of the Xbox Series X or S… at least for now.

The PlayStation 5 price hike is impacting every major market except the US, suggesting that Sony can only afford to protect its main market from paying more.

Traditionally, the Xbox has only been a huge success in the Americas and the UK, so they may be hoping that by not announcing a price hike, they’ll make more of a breakthrough in continental Europe.

However, their brief statement offers no future guarantees. “We are constantly evaluating our company to bring great gaming options to our fans,” a spokesperson said VGC.

“Our suggested retail price for the Xbox Series S remains from £249.99 and the Xbox Series X is from £449.99.”

Sony attributes the price hike to the inflation crisis that has hit most countries worldwide, including the US. It has not said whether it will lower the price again, if and when the situation returns to normal.

Nintendo already said they want to ‘avoid pricing people out’but like Microsoft has not completely ruled out the possibility of an increase in the future.
