Officials discount the environmental benefits of the waste-to-energy facility


A slick branding exercise calls a planned waste-to-energy facility “Project Kea,” after the quirky and intelligent mountain parrot.

“The kea bird is considered a guardian of the mountains,” says the South Island Resource Recovery Ltd (SIRRL) website, “while Project Kea is unique in New Zealand and aims to protect Aotearoa's environment.”
