Other publishers will be able to talk about the Nintendo Switch 2 this year, the source claims

Xenoblade Chronicles (Nintendo)

The leaker who first suggested the Switch 2 has been delayed until 2025 has revealed he knows more remasters are coming this year.

Nintendo confirms their next console which will be announced before this time next year is the first step towards its eventual reveal and release, but it still doesn't tell you much. It implies that the console will not be released in 2023, but probably next year Nintendo never said and it is always best not to take anything for granted.

It has long been rumored that the Switch 2, as fans nickname it, was originally intended to be released this year, but postponed until 2025 and the first source to make this suggestion has now released a new video explaining everything he currently knows about Nintendo's plans.

According to YouTuber Brazil, the Switch 2 is still scheduled for March 2025, with a reveal announcement likely to take place sometime between September and November this year – which is what most people expected. However, he also suggests that third-party publishers will be allowed to reference the new console in the second half of this year.

It's not unheard of for other publishers to drop hints about a new console before it's been properly announced – most famously happened with the original Watch Dogs – but it's unusual for Nintendo to allow this.

Presumably, publishers will be able to indirectly refer to a 'Switch successor' console when announcing new games, with Brazil claiming to already be aware of a number of multiplatform games set to be announced for the Switch 2 this year.

Brazil is also speculating, as we do, that Metroid Prime 4 could be the main Switch game this Christmas, and it would be an equally logical gamble to imagine an enhanced version becoming a Switch 2 launch title.

While the Switch 2 is rumored to be backwards compatible – something Nintendo itself has hinted at – that may not be strictly necessary.

As for the June Nintendo Direct, he claims to have knowledge of several new remasters that will fill the Switch's last year as Nintendo's primary console.

He uses Luigi's Mansion 2 HD as an example, which was originally a 3DS game, but whether that's meant to refer to more portable remasters is unclear.

However, there was recently a new age rating in the US for the Wii U game Kirby And The Rainbow Paintbrush (aka Kirby And The Rainbow Curse), and long-rumored Zelda titles The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD.

It's also curious that the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles Similarly, a recent leak also suggests that a spiritual successor to NES Remix on the Wii U will also come to the Switch this year.

Brazil ends by suggesting that there will be many more leaks in the near future now that Nintendo has made their announcement, and if he knows what the upcoming remasters are, others probably will too – and they may not be so reluctant to reveal the release information.
