rotesters clashed with police outside the Iranian embassy in London while calling for an end to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Dozens of protesters gathered at the embassy in Princes Gate, KnightsbridgeLondon, on Sunday afternoon.

It comes as protests in Iranian cities have spread around the world, sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who was taken into custody after being detained by Iran’s vice squad.

Angry protesters were seen screaming and pushing at officers who had lined up in front of the embassy.

Crowds chanted “Death to the Islamic Republic” and waved Iran’s former national flag from before 1979.

Images shared online also showed violent altercations between the people in the crowd.

One particular clip shows two officers wrestling a protester who appears to have broken through the police line.

Elsewhere, riot police were seen trying to pull protesters off the road at Marble Arch.

Scotland Yard said several police officers were injured during the protests, although no one is believed to be seriously injured.

The force said the crowd showed “significant intent on the part of the group to cause disorder” as protesters beached police lines and threw rockets at officers.

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of violent crimes, police said.

“There will be a significant police presence in and around the area to monitor the situation,” the Met Police said.

By 7:30 p.m., the protesters had cleared the area outside the Iranian embassy, but a handful of police officers remained outside the building.

Little was visible of the scenes from earlier in the day, except for a few tattered protest posters.

A photo of Mahsa Amini was featured on a poster, while another said: “Stop the execution in Iran”.

It comes after Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday it had summoned British Ambassador Simon Shercliff over what it described as a hostile atmosphere created by the London-based Farsi media.
