Fire and Emergency responded this afternoon to a “controlled burn that got out of hand” in Ravensbourne.

A Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said crews were alerted to a thicket near Adderley Tce around 3:13 p.m.

Three fire trucks from Ravensbourne and Dunedin stations were on hand, she said.

Senior Station Officer Ross, who was on site, said a combination of wind and dry conditions had caused the incident.

“It was a controlled burn that got out of hand.”

SSO Ross believed it took about twenty minutes for his crew to extinguish the fire.

He estimated that the fire was 5 by 7 meters in size.

“Smoke would have been visible from the city,” he said.
