Reba McEntire Comedy Happy's Place is coming to NBC

Ahead of next week's presentation to ad buyers on Madison Avenue, NBC has solidified its comedy lineup for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

The network has given a series order to the multi-camera comedy Happy's place, starring Reba McEntireand extended George Lopez's half hour Lopez vs. Lopez for a third season. Additionally, NBC canceled the rookie comedy Extended family, starring Jon Cryer.

Happy place, which was picked up as a pilot late January centers on Bobbie (McEntire), who inherits her father's restaurant and is less than happy to discover she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had. The series reunites McEntire with the team behind her 2001 sitcom of the same name, including showrunner Kevin Abbott and co-star Melissa Peterman. Belissa Escobedo, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn round out the cast of the series, which is produced in-house at Universal Television. Exec producers include Abbott, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Julie Abbott and McEntire.

Lopez vs. López, also produced in-house at Universal TV, recently wrapped its second season and stars Lopez alongside his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez. The series reached nearly 10 million total viewers across all platforms, with NBC noting that it is the highest-indexed broadcast program among English-dominant Latin American households. The series is produced by co-creator and showrunner Debby Wolfe The Connors' Bruce Helford, Michael Rotenberg of 3 Arts and Katie Newman.

Extended family, In turn, the series was ordered in September 2022. The multi-camera comedy, from producers Lionsgate Television and Universal TV, was created by Mike O'Malley and starred Cryer's broadcast favorite alongside Donald Faison and Abigail Spencer.

With the order for Happy place, NBC now has four new series in the pipeline for the 2024-25 broadcast season, with the McEntire vehicle joining the Zachary Quinto-led medical drama Brilliant minds (earlier Dr. Wolf), Wendi McClendon-Covey Mockumentary St. Denis Medical and procedural The Hunting Party. These will help fill the void left by the cancellations of Extended family and the conclusions of La Brea And Magnum PI (Law and Order: Organized Crime will move to Peacock as original.)

Drama pilots Fits LA And Grosse Point Garden Society have yet to be filmed, and decisions about the fate of both will be made after next week's presentations.

For her part, McEntire is a proven star and TV draw, an important element as both broadcast networks and streamers look for broad programming that can not only break through a crowded landscape but travel around the world.
