Record numbers of graduates march through the center of the city

More than a thousand students donned their caps and jackets for a parade through central Christchurch on Friday to mark their graduation from Lincoln University.

This was the highest number of graduates ever in the university's 146-year history.

Thirty-five percent more students graduated this year than last year, when 753 qualifications were awarded.

The increase was attributed to the strong growth of agriculture-based studies, which has increased enrollment.

The number of students enrolled in Lincoln was up 20 percent from last year.

Proud family members and friends were on hand to celebrate with their loved ones and attend the graduation ceremonies at Christchurch Town Hall.

The graduation ceremonies were moved to City Hall while reconstruction of the university campus took place after the earthquake.
