Roy Keane 'companion' Ange Postecoglou's reaction to Tottenham's 2-0 defeat Chelsea and says the manager's 'frustration' was 'good to see' given the team's recent underperformance.
Postecoglou will have been desperate for a response after back-to-back league defeats Premier League through Newcastle and Arsenalbut his out-of-control Spurs side were comfortably defeated at Stamford Bridge.
Trevoh Chalobah put Chelsea ahead with a powerful header in the 24th minute and the visitors had no answer as Nicolas Jackson increased the deficit midway through the second half of Thursday's one-sided derby.
The result left Tottenham seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa ahead of their trip to Liverpool this weekend, and Postecoglou's frustration was clear to see on the sidelines in west London.
Shortly after Chalobah opened the scoring, the Spurs head coach was heard barking orders from the edge of his technical area. Sky Sports cameras captured the 58-year-old completely losing it with Pape Matar Sarr and Cristian Romero, giving the duo the full hairdryer treatment.
Postecoglou, still seething after the final whistle, admitted his players were 'not nearly good enough' in a testy post-match interview and batted away questions about his side's apparent weakness in defending set pieces.
'It was good. It was good to see,” said ex-Manchester United captain Keane ahead of Tottenham's match with Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.
'He is clearly frustrated after some particularly tough performances.
“Talking about the Newcastle game, the first half performance against Arsenal wasn't nearly good enough, so I was pleased to see that from the manager because he's clearly frustrated. Many managers become frustrated with the team's performance.
'The perception about Ange is that he is cool, calm and collected but he was clearly frustrated with the players and at this stage of the season you want your top players to turn up and perform and they aren't doing that.
“That's going to lead to that frustration.”
Jamie Redknapp, meanwhile, branded Tottenham's performance against Chelsea 'diabolical' and said Postecoglou's men 'will have to respond' to put any kind of pressure on Villa in the battle for Champions League football.
'They were diabolical on Thursday. They haven't shown enough effort, they haven't won enough individual battles, everything you expect from your team,” the former Spurs, Liverpool and England midfielder said.
“I think the manager came out swinging in the end. There was a lot of frustration with his team and their performance.
“He's clearly trying to communicate with the midfield, he's not happy with certain elements of the way it's functioning, so they have to bounce back today.
'Their track record here is not great [at Anfield] but they have to ask the question to Aston Villa, try to put a little bit of pressure on them. Could they possibly get into the top four?
“But their away form of late, just when maybe they needed to increase the pressure on them, look at Newcastle's result, Chelsea's result, today there's more pressure so they'll have to respond.”
