The kilt-wearing handsome army officer and equerry to King Charles has made hearts beat faster again after being spotted performing tonight’s royal carol concert.

Like the prince and Princess of Wales on their way to Westminster Abbey for today’s celebratory performance, some have swooned over an officer seen in the background of photos.

Major Jonathan Thompson of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland was seen standing close behind Kate as she smiled for the cameras in front of a snowy Christmas tree.

The officer, who was once the Queen’s top bodyguard, is increasingly in the spotlight following King Charles III’s accession to the throne.

The man known to his friends as “Johnny” was central to watching over Charles’s first public walk as Monarch.

He also accompanied Prime Minister Liz Truss to meet the King at Buckingham Palace ahead of her abdication.

The Major is often seen wearing a thick Scottish kilt with a large fur sporran and a number of medals pinned to his uniform.

But to the disappointment of his admirers, the 39-year-old major has been married to 44-year-old Caroline for about 12 years.

Together they have a four-year-old son and two labradors known as Odin and Piper in Surrey.

Despite most people thinking Major Thompson is Scottish, he was actually born in Morpeth, Northumberland.

According to his LinkedIn, he entered the army in 2006 as a platoon commander.

His profile also shows how he went to Aberystwyth University where he graduated in 2004 with a degree in economics and politics with international studies.

It is said that he has been working as an equerry to the king for the past two years.
