Seattle: Dozens of Boats Destroyed in Marina Fire as Suspect Arrested

A massive fire at a boat depot in Seattle’s marina has destroyed dozens of boats and an arson suspect has been arrested.

More than 30 boats burned as the inferno swept through the facility and another building in Portage Bay early Wednesday, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Images showed a completely charred building and smoke seeping into the sky from the water.

The fire was reported around 2:00 am in the 700 block of NE Northlake Way and about 80 firefighters responded, as did members of the police’s harbor patrol unit.

In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Ecology were on site to help place buoys to prevent dangerous chemicals in the burning boats from spreading to Portage Bay and Lake Union. wrote the fire station.

No injuries were reported.

A 32-year-old man was found in a boat docked near the fire by members of an explosive ordnance disposal squad. said the police.

The man was arrested and transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. Once released from the hospital, the man is expected to face charges of arson and incarcerated at the King County Jail, police said.

The investigation into the incident continues.
