Solar Contradictions stays inside hulugalaxy even longer than expected.
The Disney-backed streamer has handed out another early extension for the creators’ animated comedy Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty) and Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks). The news, announced Thursday at New York Comic-Con, comes after season three of the series wrapped in July and days after the Halloween episode, A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Specialfell on the platform.
Season four — that was announced in June 2021 – will consist of 12 episodes and will debut in 2023. An episode count for season five and a premiere time frame have not been disclosed. Animated shows often score early renewals as such shows take significantly longer to produce.
Solar Contradictions was originally ordered direct-to-series with a two-season, 16-episode order following a multi-vendor bidding war. Disney-owned 20th Television Animation’s comedy earned a quick 12-episode third season renewal after the launch of the freshman run. At the time, Hulu — which like other streamers doesn’t release traditional viewer data — said that: Solar Contradictions was the most watched original comedy premiere to date. Roiland, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack lead the show’s voice cast.
Adult-focused animated comedies have become an area of success for streamers, including Hulu. Animated shows usually repeat extremely well.
Hulu’s roster in space includes the upcoming futurama update, Hugh Jackman in Koala Man — who is also from Roiland — and libraries of Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and King of the Hilllike futurama and American father.
